Project Need

The Capital Region Solid Waste Management Partnership has utilized the existing Rapp Road Landfill to serve the members of the Wasteshed for many years. The current intake of solid waste at the existing Rapp Road landfill is comprised of the following:

• 91% waste from surrounding communities and commercial/institutional sources
• 9% waste from the City of Albany

Without an expansion of the existing facility, the facility would utilize the remaining life sometime in 2009. Should an expansion not be developed at Rapp Road, the only options include:

• Initiating a new lengthy siting process
• Expensive exportation of wastes for all of the communities in the Wasteshed
